Meet Dr. Craig Smith

Craig Smith, DMD

Every day I wake up, I thank God that I chose to be an orthodontist. The profession allows me to meet and interact with unique and different people every day. I’m a people’s person. People come to see me because they want a better smile, and I take great pride in delivering the smiles they want and deserve. For a number of patients, this is a life changing experience! It feels good to see patients, who started out shy because of their crooked teeth, leave my office after treatment with perfectly straight teeth, now confident and outgoing!

Education and Continuing Education

For my education, I attained my Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. I then graduated from Tufts School of Dental Medicine in 2001 with my DMD and, in 2004, I received my Certificate in Orthodontics. In between dental school and orthodontic school, I did a general practice residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Although my formal education is complete, I still attend several continuing education workshops every year. I also attend a great deal of Invisalign lectures. These courses and seminars help me to keep up with the latest technologies and procedures, which benefits my patients. The more I know about efficient and comfortable orthodontic methods, the higher quality care I can provide each person who comes to see me. I love creating beautiful smiles and happy patients!

In the Practice

After practicing dentistry for more than ten years, I love the bond that I have developed with Smithtown and the surrounding community. I have treated generations of families and appreciate the individual relationships I have with my patients.

I love that all my patients are different. They all present different dental challenges, and they have trusted me with their orthodontic care, which is truly an honor. My patients are wonderful, compassionate people, and I always treat them with gentle care.

We like to have fun in our office! We dress up for Halloween and have prizes every month for our patients and parents. In addition, we like to show our appreciation to our patients by having an office outing at least once a year. This past year we had a movie night and pizza party.

I truly believe I have the best staff in the country. I have handpicked each staff member. They all work great together, but most importantly, they all have certain qualities that make them special. Each staff member is also very skilled and have years of experience.

Family and Community

I am originally from New Haven, Connecticut, and love living in Miller Place on Long Island! My wife, Lisa, and I have one lovely daughter named Madison and a Jack Russell Terrier, Bianca. In my spare time, I love to spend time at Disney with the family. Lisa and I were even married at Disney World! My wife and I love to travel with Madison. Lisa owns a travel company, so we get to travel a lot.

I think it’s important to support our community, and for the last two years, my practice has bought tons of Halloween candy to send to our troops overseas. For the past few years, I have also personally helped raise money for Autism Speaks. I have recently involved the office in this campaign as well as raising money for Juvenile Diabetes research.
